We spent 3 days this weekend scouting the Northern sections of the Washington Backcountry Discovery Route. With the large forest fires that area has experienced the last several years, a heavy snow fall, and now spring run-off we wanted to verify what roads were open. The forest service listed several sections as closed because of washouts, and we wanted to verify that the alternate routes we found on the maps would actually work. It is a good thing that we did. Several of the road sections that the USFS show as open are closed, and at least one that they listed as closed have been reopened. We have been able to scout alternate routes for one section, but as you can see from the photos below, there are many areas that are washed out, and will not likely be reopen for the foreseeable future.
We are working hard to make the July WABRD trip a success. There are still slots open but time is growing short. This will be a 6-day, Train-on-the-Trail trip along the length of Washington. If you want to learn more about how to drive your rig off-road, hang with a fun group of people, and challenge yourself a little then join us for this great trip.
